A borehole is not a hole in the ground: it is a structure that still has to deliver drinking water ten years from now. We drill water boreholes for homes, businesses, schools and communities — from the site survey to the tap.
What a borehole includes
- Geophysical survey — finding the best point to drill before drilling. It is the step people skip to save money, and the one that costs the most when it is skipped
- Drilling with a down-the-hole hammer or mud rotary, depending on the ground: laterite, clay or hard rock
- Casing and screens in food-grade PVC, gravel pack and a cemented head so surface water cannot run down into the well
- Development and yield test — the borehole is flushed until the water runs clear, then test-pumped to establish the real yield and size the pump correctly
- Water analysis in a laboratory: bacteriological and physico-chemical potability, with the report handed to the client
- Full equipment: electric or solar submersible pump, control box, rising main, tank or water tower, and connection to the building's network
Solar pumping
On most sites solar equipment costs less to run than a grid connection — and it keeps working through a power cut. We size the panel array on the yield and the head, not by guesswork.
Lead time
For a domestic borehole: the survey in a day, drilling in one to three days, equipment straight after. Allow one to two weeks between the site visit and water at the tap, analysis included. Community and industrial projects are quoted after a visit.
After the borehole
We maintain it: pump checks, well cleaning, replacement of wearing parts and a fresh water analysis. A borehole that is looked after ages well; one that is left alone silts up.
